JUST DOWN THE ROAD
Some of the valley’s best moments begin minutes from Deer Valley.
You do not need a full-day itinerary to experience the area. Follow the river, walk or ride a historic rail trail, browse a beloved roadside stop, or simply take the long way home.
Follow Highway 10 Along the Yakima River
Take the slower road west as Highway 10 follows the Yakima River through green bends, open hills, rocky bluffs, and the Teanaway corridor. Even without a destination, the drive is part of the experience.

Walk or Ride the Old Rail Trail
Park at the Thorp Trailhead and follow the Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail—formerly known as the John Wayne Trail—on foot or by bicycle. The historic rail corridor offers an easy, scenic way to experience the valley with room for a short walk or a longer ride.
Dogs are permitted on leash, and the trail is open to walking and cycling. Check current access conditions and detours before visiting.

Browse Thorp Fruit & Antique Mall
Pick up seasonal produce and local goods, grab ice cream or espresso, then wander the large collection of antiques and vintage finds upstairs. It is an easy, surprisingly fun stop just down the road.

Kittitas County offers seasonal opportunities for waterfowl, upland birds, turkey, deer, elk, and other game through designated public lands, private access, and local clubs such as Cooke Canyon Hunt Club. Licenses, seasons, reservations, land access, and equipment restrictions vary. Confirm current regulations and access requirements directly with WDFW before planning a trip. Wander Roslyn & Cle Elum
Approximate drive: About 30 minutes from Deer Valley
Browse Roslyn’s historic streets, stop for coffee or lunch, and pair it with shops, restaurants, or a relaxed walk through Cle Elum. Together, they make an easy morning or afternoon outing.
Head Toward Salmon La Sac
Follow the road past Cle Elum Lake toward forested mountain country, river access, campgrounds, and trailheads. In summer, combine it with swimming, boating, or time along the shore at Speelyi Beach.

Drive the Yakima River Canyon
Continue south through winding basalt walls, river bends, hiking access, and dramatic open scenery. Umtanum is only one entry point into a canyon worth exploring much farther.

Hike the Vantage Desert
Trade mountain forest for exposed basalt, sweeping Columbia River views, desert wildflowers, and the unusual landscapes around Vantage and Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park.

Hike Into the Ancient Lakes
Walk through sagebrush and basalt country into Potholes Coulee, where waterfalls, desert lakes, and towering rock walls reveal the immense forces that shaped Central Washington. It is an unforgettable spring or autumn day trip—and a completely different landscape from the mountains west of the valley.
Multiple trailheads and routes serve the area. Confirm your chosen trailhead, current access, parking-pass requirements, and conditions before leaving; summer can be extremely hot and exposed.

Ski The Summit at Snoqualmie
Build a winter day around skiing, snowboarding, tubing, or Nordic trails at Snoqualmie Pass, then return east to Deer Valley for the sauna, hot tub, and a quieter evening.

Deer Valley is located on the quieter eastern side of Kittitas Valley, approximately 90 minutes from Seattle in typical conditions. The primary route crosses Snoqualmie Pass before opening into the hills and wide skies of Central Washington
Mountain-pass weather, summer heat, wind, wildfire conditions, river levels, and trail access can change throughout the year. Check current conditions before traveling and arrive prepared for the season.
Approximately 90 minutes from Seattle under normal conditions. Weekend traffic, construction, weather, and activity on Snoqualmie Pass can add time, so leave some flexibility in your arrival plan.
From Seattle, the main route is I-90 over Snoqualmie Pass. Winter storms may bring traction-tire or chain requirements, delays, or temporary closures. Check current WSDOT pass conditions before departure and carry the equipment required for your vehicle.
Full grocery stores, fuel, and the widest dining selections are available in Cle Elum and Ellensburg. Guests traveling from Seattle may prefer to stock up before settling into Deer Valley.
Thorp Fruit & Antique Mall is approximately 11 minutes away for seasonal produce, specialty foods, snacks, espresso, gifts, and antiques, but it is not a full grocery store.
Cell service is available at Deer Valley and is generally reliable at the property. Coverage may become less consistent along rural roads, inside river canyons, and in nearby mountain areas, so download directions and trail maps before heading out for the day.
